If you haven’t seen Mad Men let me summarize for you: Guy goes to work, guy gets drunk, guy looks good, guy gets laid, repeat.  AMC has made it clear that Don Draper was ‘the Man’ of his time.   He calls the shots, people listen when he speaks and the sweet sweet ladies lay down when he tells them to.  So this got me thinking ‘where does the mojo come from?’  Just what would it take to recreate a modern-day Donald Draper?  Obviously there’s no substitute for the original, but here’s a few things you’ll need to pick up once you’ve made partner at the firm.

GUY GOES TO WORK

Back in the day it was a Cadillac that would turn the heads on the street, let everyone know that ‘you’ve arrived.’  Today, unless you’re an athlete or rapper driving around in an Escalade, not so much…..What you need is the Tesla Roadster, the end all-be all of energy efficient sports cars.  At 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds you’ll rival pretty much any other super car on the road, but with efficiency 2x that of the Prius you’ll let the Plebs know that you still care about the environment.

GUY GETS DRUNK

Nowadays you can’t drink in most offices, but for the sake of this article lets assume you don’t work in an alcohol-free zone, but one that encourages you to embrace the creative powers one gains from the various elixirs.  So, what do you keep in your bar?  To cover your bases you’ll probably need to stock a variety of Vodka, Gin, Scotch and some sort of celebratory spirit for special occasions.

Vodka, this is a spirit that has taken the market by storm in recent years, and expanded in ways never previously thought of.  So be careful when choosing a bottle for your office.  But in the spirit of Mad Men this is your easiest decision, you stock a traditional Russian Vodka, something like a Stolichnaya or Russian Standard Vodka, either will do fine.

Scotch, this one’s going to be a staple in your office.  If you don’t drink it or don’t like it, tough luck.  Go out and get a fine bottle of Macallan.  This is going to be your go-to drink when pouring for colleagues or clients, it can be savored on any occasion (not just for celebration).

Gin, this is your all purpose beverage.  Gin is loved by men, women, young and the old.  Specifically, Hendrick’s is an iconoclastically produced small batch gin distilled in Ayrshire, Scotland. Their unusual distillation process produces a one-of-a-kind gin that is passionately loved by a tiny yet growing handful of individuals all over the world (myself included obviously). No other gin tastes like it because no other gin is made like it.

GUY GETS LAID

This one can get tricky, but it starts and ends with confidence.  Don Draper is such a powerful character because he oozes confidence from every pore, but in addition to that he has a perfectly crafted image that the ladies of yesteryear just cant seem to get enough of.  So to get you headed in the right direction we suggest splurging and picking up this deliciously classic Mad Men edition suit by Brooks Brothers.  The clothes wont get you laid, but they’ll certainly help!
